Narrative and Plot
When I watched the Shadow and Bone series , I was confused because I couldn’t make up my mind about these unfamiliar characters. Atleast for the first three episodes. By the time, the series finale came, I was so intrigued by the Kaz Brekker and his crew, that I decided to give Six of Crows a try. And honestly, for the first three chapters, I struggled. It felt slow and info dumpy. But then, the third chapter happened and it was hard for me to stop.
The plot , the characters , the premise everything was so captivating that I ended up thinking about Ketterdam and Ice Court even when I was at work. I was disappointed when it ended. And now, I cannot wait to read Crooked Kingdom.
Characters and Conflicts
The heist might have made the plot edgy, but the most fascinating aspect was the characters. The way they were written is admirable. Each narrator had a distinct voice and you never once doubted their integrity. Kaz – the boy who wanted to rule the world and yet couldn’t lose himself when it came to things that mattered. Inej – the Suli acrobat who struggled with her faith and who she had become. Jesper – the sharpshooter who wasn’t sure about his destiny and had a serious addiction. Nina – who was proud of being a Grisha but had turmoil in her heart. Matthias – who was torn between duty and love.
It was rich with conflict and reflective characters who would sweep you into their world along with the story.
Conclusion
Six of Crows is a must read if you love adventure with powerful characters. The world building is so detailed that you wouldn’t even think about it being fictional. It is as mesmerizing as a fantasy should be.
