The Wife Between Us | By Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
Book Review | Mystery Thriller

My thoughts
Narrative and Plot
The compelling narrative is one of the highlights of the story. Even though I saw the big twist coming in the middle, I still wanted to keep turning the pages. If you’ve read the author duo’s previous works, you can see where the story is going—yet it’s like a train wreck you can’t look away from.
The storytelling is engaging and urgent, just like a thriller should be. The writing itself is beautiful and paints a vivid picture with each scene. It does a brilliant job of twisting the same scene later in the story, offering a completely different perspective.
Characters and Conflicts
The protagonist, her husband, and the replacement are the central characters, and all of them are layered individuals. Each one is twisted in their own way, too. The way the story is set up doesn’t allow me to reveal too much, but the depth and intensity of each character—even the minor ones—play an important part in the narrative.
The central conflict of the book is quite simple: to stop the replacement. Or is it? That’s all I’ll say—very well played. The subject matter is handled with the nuance it requires. At times, it borders on horror because it feels more real than any monster under the bed.
Conclusion
The Wife Between Us is one of those meticulous thrillers where every detail matters. Each sentence carries weight. It’s like playing a game of clues, where you’re constantly trying to figure out who the real culprit is. At times, it even makes you question whether your narrator is reliable. If you enjoy these elements, then this thriller is definitely for you.
