My thoughts

Narrative and Plot

When you pick up a book titled Our Virtual Love Story, you expect a journey where feelings blossom on both sides and romance ensues. There are so many layers to relationships in this day and age, especially when the love story is marketed as one between gamers.

However, in this case, the romance doesn’t happen until the very end, and the shift feels not only abrupt but quite filmy. The gaming aspects weren’t explored much, except for the opening scene, and had no real relevance to the story beyond serving as a plot device for the main leads.

Characters and Conflicts

The external conflict in the book was interesting and kept me engaged. However, the characters lacked depth. Rishabh’s reckless choices, made without hesitation, made him a difficult character to root for. The trajectory of the story was also quite predictable.

Saloni had great potential as a character, but her arc remained incomplete. Meanwhile, Akash, aside from being Rishabh’s friend, read as a two-dimensional character.

Conclusion

Our Virtual Love Story is a quick read with a predictable plot. The characters felt unimaginative and uninspiring. However, the chemistry between the two leads was a redeeming factor, even though the romance came too little, too late.
