My 2026 Reading Goals

Dear Bookbugs,

Every year I set my reading goals in January so that I can focus on things that I want to evolve in my reading habits. Usually, I include a review of the previous year’s goals. However, I didn’t have a great reading year in 2025 and want to start fresh in 2026. So, I am not looking back at the past year. But I am hopeful about the year ahead.

Here we go,

1)Read 52 books in 2026

Last year, I got a little too cocky about this goal, thinking it would be the easiest one to achieve. Turns out, I didn’t get that lucky and ended up reading just 34 books. This year, I’m hoping to get back to my usual reading pace and finish more books. The number is meant to boost the habit a bit.

2) DNF books that I’m not into

Honestly, I really struggle with DNFing books. I find it hard to walk away from someone else’s hard work. But this year, I want to look at it differently and allow myself to set a book aside if it’s just not working for me at that moment. Hopefully, I’ll get better at recognizing when a book isn’t for me and be ok with it.

3) Re-read more books

I’ve realized that a lot of the books I claim to love are ones where I can barely remember a single quote. Meanwhile, with my older favorites, I still remember the character names, scenes and even bits of dialogue. So this year, I want to revisit those familiar stories and soak in the comfort they once gave me and, in retrospect, find out if I still love them as much as I did back then.

4) Reduce my physical TBR

I tried tackling this goal last year with a TBR jar. It worked for a while, but then my living situation changed, my responsibilities shifted, and the system slowly fizzled out. So this year, I’m keeping things simple and straightforward. I really need to bring down my physical TBR. I might reuse what’s left of the TBR jar, but if that doesn’t work, I’ll stick to a simple checklist.

5) Listen to more audiobooks

I used to be really good at listening to audiobooks, especially while multitasking. But ever since I started reading physical copies or e-books alongside the audio, my listening time has plummeted. This year, I want to get back to just listening to audiobooks, especially the ones that are clearly designed to shine in audio format.

Those are all of my reading goals for 2026. If you have any special reading goals for 2026, share them in the comments. I would love to read about it and find some inspiration.

Happy Reading Everyone!!

Every year I tell myself that I’m going to DNF books that I don’t really like and every year I continue to read them and then put myself in a reading rut. That’s something I really want to work on this year too especially considering last year wasn’t a good reading year for me either. I wish you luck though!
