My thoughts
Narrative and Plot
Floating Solo is a hopeful romantic comedy where we follow Kat Sinclair who lives on her boat, Creaky Cauldron, and runs her own boating service. The story revolves around how she finds her footing when life leaves her at a crossroads, both personally and professionally.
The plot is straightforward, but the small-town charm and budding romance keep you interested. The boating aspect and the beauty of the marina transport you to the Creaky Cauldron, making this a perfect beach read.
Characters and Conflict
On the surface, the premise definitely sounds interesting. It’s a quick read, and the ensemble cast adds to the magic of the story. Both Kat and Jordan have clear character arcs by the end. Kat learns to let go of her past, while Jordan learns to appreciate what he has and gains perspective.
The individual character journeys, along with the supporting cast, were all well done. However, the chemistry and tension between the main characters didn’t quite come through. It felt a bit forced, especially since they were both seeing other people until the halfway mark. The romance was fine, but it didn’t fully hit the mark. It would have helped if we had more one-on-one scenes between Kat and Jordan before they eventually got together.
Conclusion
Overall, I enjoyed the book. Floating Solo was a breezy, one-time read for me. It was fun, simple and sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a rom-com.
